Back in '92, Barditus and Zwelg where playing in Acromegal. Their need to
sicken the world caused the creation of LUGUBRUM that same year. After making
2 songs, their activities were derived to drinking in the woods. Zwelg left
the band in '93.
Shortly after, Barditus met Midgaard, who appeared to be a workaholic. This
resulted in the "Black Prohecies" demo in '93 and the '94 promo, both distributed
on a small scale. The rhythm was set and '95 saw the release of their first
full-legth "Winterstones", on their own clandestine label Skramasax. The reactions
were very positive and things looked promising.
In January '97 "Gedachte & Geheugen" was released. The first part consisting
of fast and raw "war metal", the second of dark synthesizer music. Midgaard
and Barditus were very pleased with the result, but the bigger part of the
outside world considered it as being "too extreme" compared to their succesful
debut. The reactions came as a disappointment, and due to various setbacks,
LUGUBRUM was once more put dormant for a year. Midgaard started working on
other things and rumours went round that they had split up.
In early '98 an excruciating but familiar stench filled the scene as LUGUBRUM
was brought back to life. Zwelg, who was playing in Finsternis with Svein,
rejoined LUGUBRUM as their bass player. "De Zuivering" was recorded in one
night and released as a split with Sudarium. Later on Svein also joined the
band on drums. On the 17th October of that year, the inevitable took place:
LUGUBRUM played their first and infamous live concert on the Lugburz
fest at St-Niklaas. The band had drunk too much, their instruments became
blurry and the songs messy. A second live show was performed on the 26th December
at the Frontline in Gent, where they stayed sober and bored their asses off.
Being a 4 piece band, more time was put in the music and production. All songs
had to create the right atmosphere LUGUBRUM wanted them to. Late '99 saw the
release of "De Totem". This piece of filth wasn't released on their own label,
but on the Dutch Berzerker label. They had never worked on a CD for this long,
and the result was even more perverted than ever!
Future holds the outbreak of "Bruyne Troon" ... and a lot of alcohol ...
